What’s an organic toy?
An organic soft toy consists either entirely, or partly, of fabric which is made from organically grown fibres, such as organic cotton or organic wool, which have been produced without the use of any pesticides, toxins or harmful substances. We only stock toys which use textiles made using certified 100% organic fabrics. We insist that, at the very least, the main outer fabric of every toy we stock meets this criteria.
Please be aware that there are some websites promoting toys with misleading terminology suggesting, for example, that a natural toy is automatically an environmentally friendly-toy, which is not necessarily the case. A cotton or bamboo fabric toy may contain residues of extremely toxic chemicals, used at crop or harvesting stages of its production. Toys made with certified organic fabrics make a definitive statement that the fibres have been grown in an environmentally-responsible way.
Incidentally, a toy made with bamboo fabric is not automatically organic – in fact, whilst bamboo is a sustainable crop, the vast majority of bamboo fabric would most certainly fail to meet organic standards. For more information, please see our About Organic Toys page.
MiYim toys are often mistakenly assumed to have organic cotton fillings, but despite any claims you might find on other websites to the contrary, the fillings in all MiYim toys are conventional cotton, not organic cotton. (We do not stock MiYim toys.)
