What are the benefits of organic cotton compared to conventional non-organic cotton?

In brief, the main benefits are all related to the fact that organic cotton is grown without the use of pesticides and toxic chemicals.  This means:

  • babies and children benefit from the purity of the fabric;
  • cotton workers benefit from not working with poisonous, potentially fatal, chemicals;
  • large communities of people living in vast regions surrounding the cotton farms benefit because their air, soil and water supplies don't become contaminated; and
  • the planet and eco-systems benefit in the absence of the use of harmful chemicals.

We’ve outlined the main attributes in more detail on our About Organic Toys page but to find out more in-depth information, please refer to sites who offer expert knowledge such as those we’ve included on our Links page.

Are all the products you sell 100% organic?

All of our toys have a minimum of certified 100% organically grown cotton as the main outer fabric.  Many also have organic fillings too but please see our toys' descriptions for the organic composition information of each toy we stock.  Any non-organic or synthetic elements of the toys are clearly and honestly stated in these descriptions.

Our Organic Toys page provides further factual information about organic toys.

How do I know it really is organic?

Organic toys: Every toy we stock carries official organic certification for its main outer fabric.  These fabrics are tested and certified by internationally recognised and official organic certification bodies for your complete reassurance that strict standards are met.  If a toy's filling material is not certified organic, we will state this clearly in the toy's description page.  For details of some of the most recognised official certification organisations, please see our About Organic Toys page.

Organic baby skincare: All of the baby and child organic skincare products we offer are certified organic.  This means that some are certified to contain a minimum of 70% organic ingredients and others are certified to have 95% or more organic content.  Each product's description on our website will indicate its percentage of organic content.

What do you mean by organically grown cotton fibres?

Organically grown cotton fibres are harvested from cotton plants which have been farmed under strict controls to all of their organic certifying body's standards, without the use of any pesticides, synthetic fertilisers or any other toxic substances.  Cotton crops are extremely susceptible to a vast number of pests but rather than using pesticides, their natural predators are introduced as pest control.  Good crop rotation and soil management is also essential to maintain natural soil fertility, avoiding the need for synthetic chemical fertilisers.

You mention Oeko-Tex 100 (Öko-Tex) certification – what does this represent?

The Oeko-Tex100 (often referred to as Öko-Tex 100) is an international standard which certifies that a fabric or product has been rigorously tested to show it doesn’t contain any of the top 100 harmful substances most commonly found in textiles.  It is not an organic certification and doesn't assure an environmentally-friendly or chemical-free history of a textile.  We have covered the main points about this in a little more detail in the Öko-Tex section of ourAbout Organic Toys page.

I’ve seen a brand of organic toys elsewhere which you don’t stock.  Are you able to supply these?

Please do contact us with further details as we may not know of them.  We do our best to stock all the main, best quality organic soft toys so please do contact us know of any new organic toys you hear about or any you would like us to stock.

Why do you not stock MiYim toys?

We are unable to stock the American brand MiYim’s organic toys as this exact range is no longer being officially supplied to the UK.  An alternative range by MiYim has been launched for the UK but whilst this range has natural toys, they have no organic credentials, so they don’t fall within our criteria.  Furthermore, commercial contracts which are now in place prevent MiYim in the USA from supplying directly to UK retailers.

Please be aware that some MiYim toy stockists are inaccurately claiming that these toys have organic fillings but this NOT the case.  Only the outer fabric of MiYim toys is organic.  Conventionally grown, non-organic cotton is used for the filling.

We live nearby – can we collect and save delivery charges?

Yes, certainly, although please do contact us in advance to arrange as collection is strictly by appointment only.

Can organic toys be machine washed?

Some, but not all, can be machine washed.  Always check labels on the toys for care/washing information.  We state washing instructions with each toy's description on our website, so you can see how easy a toy is to clean, before you buy.

Do you despatch overseas?

We can despatch overseas, but unfortunately not to USA or Canada.  Please request overseas delivery costs prior to placing an order online.  All international orders must be signed for at their destination.

Why don’t you ship to USA or Canada?

Regrettably, we are unable to ship to these areas because our commercial insurance prohibits us from doing so.

Can my order be delivered to my work address?

All orders must be signed for at their destination, so we realise this may not be practical if you are usually at work during the day, so orders can be sent to a different delivery address.  Just remember to specify your delivery address, if different from your billing address, when ordering.  Please note that as a signature is required at the delivery destination, we are unable to despatch to a PO Box address.

How quickly will my order be despatched?

Orders which we receive during Post Office opening hours will usually be despatched the same day via Royal Mail 1st Class Recorded Delivery, subject to cleared funds and stock availability.  Orders which arrive late in the day or outside normal Post Office opening hours will usually be despatched on the next working day (including Saturday mornings).  Please see our Ordering Information page for more details.
