Organic cotton and the environment
Conventional, non-organic, cotton is one of the most environmentally devastating and toxic forms of agriculture in the world, causing far-reaching contamination of soil, air and water supplies.
Furthermore, unacceptable numbers of cotton farmers and their workers in developing countries are poisoned by exposure to the chemicals they have to work with, having fatal consequences for 20,000 of them every year. The statistics are far higher still, for those living and working in these vast regions, whose permanent and debilitating health problems are caused as a direct result of the excessive use of poisonous chemicals on non-organic cotton crops.
How can we turn a blind eye to the human cost of conventional cotton farming?
ETHICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Organic toys:
With so many cheap conventional soft toys available, it's important to remember that low-cost toys, just like cheap clothing, are a very likely indication of terrible working conditions for the people who make these products, particularly when manufactured in areas of the world less protected by enforced employment laws. We're all aware and horrified at the "sweatshops" which callously use child labour, pay ludicrously low wages and have wholly unacceptable conditions which their workers have no choice but to endure. Therefore all our
Organic baby skincare
Using chemical based skin care products adds to the toxic burden that we have to deal with. By using organic skin care products you can help to decrease the toxic load on your body and on the environment. As babies and children still have immature and developing systems, they are particularly vulnerable to harmful and irritant chemicals.
The organic baby skincare products that we stock are mainly made in the UK. Trevarno's products are all handmade on their estate in Cornwall and Green People's products are made either in the UK or in a family-owned and run manufacturing facility in Scandinavia. Both organisations take great care and pride in sourcing the highest quality, ethical and sustainable ingredients from socially just and environmentally responsible suppliers.
